Dr. J. A. Kharlamov has 24 years of clinical experience in general cardiology (since 1996; a Consultant Physician since 2007, a Board-Certified Cardiologist since 2010), 19 years of translational research in nanomedicine and biomedical engineering (since 2001), and about 13 years of the bench-to-bedside studies in interventional cardiology (a leader of the research group since 2007) including academic research in imaging, vascular biology, and pathology, RTD of cardiovascular imaging software (artificial intelligence/ machine learning), medical devices (bioresorbable scaffolds and stents, nanomedicine). He has moved to Russia in babyhood having American, Dutch and British roots, and has received his M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) cum laude in 2005 from Ural Medical University (Yekaterinburg, Russia). After finishing his internship in internal medicine in 2007 at the Ural Institute of Cardiology (mentor - Prof. Jan Gabinsky, Yekaterinburg, Russia) he started as a physician and translational researcher (a group leader as an Assistant Professor) in the field of interventional cardiology and nanobiotechnologies. The main research direction now is an RTD of the multifunctional nanoparticles for theranostics of atherosclerosis. He is an inventor of the revolutionary application which has the potential to replace conventional stenting and CABG. He has passed his C.Sc.-doctoral/ graduate degree course in cardiology (A.B.D.) at the Ural Medical University in 2008-2011. Since 2007-2009 he has been working as a research fellow in some institutes in the Netherlands (UMC St Radboud, Nijmegen; UMCG, Groningen; Erasmus MC, Rotterdam including mentorship of the renowned Prof. Patrick Serruys). He is an author of more than 60 articles and grant proposals for the European Commission and has received for his research work some national and international awards. Since Dec 2018 he is a FESC, and Jan 2019 - a FACC, Jan 2020 - a FEACVI.

The structure of the DHRF includes three labs:
1) Translational Research Lab for Biomedical Engineering and Cardiovascular Nanomedicine (DHRF Cramer Lab) with a focus on translational research and RTD in biomedical engineering (including the artificial womb), nanomedicine, medical devices (multifunctional bioresorbable scaffolds), and regression of atherosclerosis
2) Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging CoreLab (DHRF Da Vinci Lab) is a CoreLab with the expert analysis of both invasive and non-invasive (interventional/ intravascular) techniques in cardiology including the development of the artificial intelligence-based imaging software
3) Trialist Lab (DHRF Van Buren Lab) is essentially an assistant and management research service to the clinical trials in general and interventional cardiology
